Good news:The Provisional International monthly mean Sunspot Number for February 2011 is 29.4 (twenty-nine point four). That's the highest so far in the new sunspot cycle, Cycle 24. Numbers, starting with August 2009: 0.0, 4.3, 4.8, 4.1, 10.8, 13.2, 18.8, 15.4, 8.0, 8.7, 13.6, 16.1, 19.6, 25.2, 23.5, 21.6, 14.5, 19.0, and now, 29.4
Expect continued geomagnetic disturbance from March 1 through March 3. This might result in some Aurora. And, this will lower the maximum usable frequencies on shortwave radio. While the sunspot activity is elevated, this geomagnetic disturbance will degrade HF communications on higher frequencies.
