Spaceweather.com reports that Rogerio Marcon
took this image on Friday, September 17, 2010, from his backyard
observatory in Campinas, Brazil. Even though it is one of the biggest sunspots
to emerge in Solar Cycle 24, it has not yet emitted any significant eruptions -
only a few B-flares and one C-class event. Scientists say the sunspot's magnetic
field holds potential for major flare action and a 25% chance of an M-flare
during the next 24 hours. See: Spaceweather.com and SOHO.
